Japanese Pancakes - 02-27-2008, 12:44 AM

A friend's mother once tried to make me feel at home in Japan by serving Japanese pancakes for breakfast, thinking this would be very familiar to me.

These were very unusual pancakes with seafood ingredients.
I was definitely not very enthusiastic about them when I saw octopus tentacles sticking out. :-)

The name of this breakfast treat escapes me now. Maybe someone else can add the name here.

What are Japanese pancakes? Was it something like okonomiyaki?

It sounds like okonomiyaki...but it's not really a breakfast food.

I did a lot of the same...but with raw eggs. A good power-up breakfast.

Okonomiyaki - 02-27-2008, 07:36 PM

Yes, that is it.
Okonomiyaki.

Maybe it was served as breakfast because they thought it would be what I am used to for breakfast in the US.

It was far from what I am used to though. :-)

Sausages...
They also served me these little link sausages that were cooked on the same griddle as the okonomiyaki.

I have always wondered about them, becasue they looked raw, but were only heated briefly before being served.
I hope they were pre-cooked.
Is this common in Japan?
Little precooked sausage links for heating up quickly?

LOL! Wow! I think I would've lost my appetite at the sight of an octopus tentacle but at least it was nice of your friend's mother to try!

I don't know if it's more of a breakfast of a dessert, but something that i have had that was realy quite good was a chocolate/milk/rice thing called "champ-o-rado" i'm not shure i even spelled it correctly, but it is like a hot chocolate porrage and you can put as much or as little milk in as you want

look... a panda >
