how common is it to eat fugu?
In the United States, everyone makes it sound like fugu is so scary to eat and it's SO dangerous. But I heard from my japanese friend that it's not that uncommon. Have you tried fugu?

It's only dangerous when it's prepared by an amateur who doesn't know what to do with which organs. In Japan, fugu is prepared only by the government-licensed chefs.
You've got to try it if you're ever here. Fugu is too yummy. |

I would love to try it. Is it true it makes your mouth a little numb because of a little amount of toxin that's there? |

I don't know how fugu is served in other countries, but in Japan, it's required by law that fugu be served without any poison. I've been eating fugu for a few decades and have never had a numb mouth. I just keep eating it because no other fish can give you the tender, creamy meat. I never let a winter pass me by without at least a couple of fugu dinners. In the old days (over 40-50 yeras ago), however, things were a little different. The laws regarding fugu weren't nearly as strict as they are now. The so-called gourmets wanted to try a little further so that they could brag about their bravery later on. Now that is just forbidden. |
I'd never try fugu. xD
But then again I just dislike eating any sort of fish, lol. |
