If you have no mental illness nor have you had any history of a mental illness, and you can claim you are 'reasonably' sane...
then this should look absolutely scrumptious too you

If it doesn't, then I highly recommend you too your local asylum >.>
The looney bin if you will.

It looks delicious to me, but what is it? It looks like a sort of savoury custard.

I'd be scared to try natto. Let's say I'm in Japan and it is offered to me. I know it's rude to turn it down. I'd be scared that I just wouldn't like it. I've read that it's definitely an acquired taste and that even some Japanese don't like it.

That aside, I do wish I could go to a real sushi restaurant and a real raamen one.

Oh yeah, speaking of "non-Japanese" running Japanese like places. I was watching No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain, and he went to a sushi restaurant in either Texas or New Mexico that was run and owned by a Chinese woman, and the sushi chefs were all Mexican. An interesting combination, eh?

That's how it is in 90% of "Japanese" restaurants I know of in the US.

ETA: Don't feel bad about saying no to natto if it's offered to you. Everyone will understand

To be completely honest, I've never been to one that didn't seem to be run by Japanese people. It's just not traditionally a sushi place, because they allow one to buy other foods in there. For instance, I mentioned in another topic that I had sukiyaki in one of them, and fell in love with that dish. *Obviously hungry* lol But, for a sushi restaurant, the only thing that should be served is sushi alone, not stuff like negimayaki or tenpura dishes or donburi dishes, etc.

That'd be nice, but if offered, I think I'd still try it. "Don't knock something until you try it", I always say. ^_^

Do you know what brand the natto came from?

Natto is not bitter, not from what I remember. But it does have a funny taste.
My mom and grandma can eat natto plain, I find it disgusting. But hey, they like natto.

I can only eat natto with rice, egg, and furikake.
