Umeshu
It seems like the only alcohol I actually enjoy drinking - I LOVE IT. Any fans?
For those who don't know what it is >> here |
Ah, you have mentioned one of my absolute favorite beverages.

Damn...more people should be posting in this thread..

The first time was at Whole Foods (major mainstream U.S. organic market). I was actually looking for a good Port, but since I already loved umeboshi paste, and even cheap plum wine, the bottle of Choya with its plums caught my attention. I have probably bought most of it in a little liquor store next to this korean sushi bar in town. Their food is ok and their karaoke machine is on its last legs, but there is no corkage fee and they are open as long as there is customers. The store next door sells enough choya and various sakes that he keeps them stocked in the cooler for taking next door. My sushi group really appreciates the fact that I don't like getting totally wasted, because I always make sure to share it with everyone around just so that I don't drink it all myself. I found out the hard way that if you keep putting it in reach, I will keep drinking it till I can't lift glass/bottle anymore. |
One of my favorite places in Osaka is this restuarant/umeshu bar: PLUM
PLUM Web Site PLUM Top They have umeshu from all over Japan, the menu was like 4 pages long...and everything from brandy-infused umeshu to green tea-infused umeshu. I like Shoya, but that's the Bud Lite of umeshu. It's worth splurging once in a while for something even better... |

But this is one place I will definitely need a trusted escort to get me home from safely. When I eventually make it to that side of the Pacific, there is an extremely small list of places I want to visit and this was just added. |
