Sushi with fingers?

Just curious, do you eat your sushi with chopsticks, or with your fingers?

LittleFallenAngel 07-06-2008 04:32 PM

Not always. Either chopsticks or fingers are okay.

I prefer fingers, but that's mostly because I can't use chopsticks and I hate eating it with a fork.

...Wait a minute. Wasn't there already a poll like this?

MarkDuff 07-06-2008 04:47 PM

don't eat it xD sooo neither

TalnSG 07-06-2008 04:52 PM

Fingers for sushi, chopsticks for sashimi and everything else.

Fire_Girl625 07-06-2008 04:54 PM

Chopsticks, unless they're really big rolls, like my dad makes.

MiyagiShiori 07-06-2008 05:42 PM

i usually eat it with chopsticks.
but there are sometimes when i am really " chopstick challenged" and i just use my fingers. i think its okay either way.

That there was, where we found out that as the restaurant in Japan becomes more expensive, it becomes more acceptable to use your fingers to eat the sushi with.

Yuna7780 07-06-2008 08:08 PM

haha... I use my fingers because it's easier to use, but I sometimes use chopsticks.

Tyrien 07-06-2008 08:37 PM

Only really had it once. But I try with chopsticks get mad and either go for a fork or pick it up.

strawberryshinya 07-06-2008 09:59 PM

i use chopsticks to the best of my ability. ^_^*

Laine 07-07-2008 07:05 AM

Chopsticks. Unless I'm on the go and there are no chopsticks handy (unlikely).

I always thought people used their fingers because they didn't know how to use chopsticks. I didn't realize it was culturally acceptable to use your fingers to eat sushi. Surprises, surprises.

Oh yeah, many Japanese eat with their fingers.

emiluvsjmusic 07-07-2008 11:18 AM

err depends what kind of sushi.. sometimes i use chopsticks and sometimes fingers

Katchan6 07-07-2008 11:59 AM

^yeah same. also depends on where i am and who i'm with. :D
but most of the time chopsticks

jrocka83 07-07-2008 12:12 PM

Chopstx most of the time. I don't want to get rice and soy sauce on my fingers. If it is wrapped with sea-weed, then I might use my fingers. Then again, on time I had such a craving for sashimi salmon, I bought a pack in Max Value, and devoured the whole cut on site. Man that was good:) .

kiyuga 07-08-2008 08:44 PM

I would rather eat with chopsticks when I'm in public....but in private I eat with my fingers.....I'm not as well mannered as I appear...

actually >.>"'
if the sushi is made correctly, and you eat it correctly~
you won't get any rice or soy sauce on your fingers o.o'
actually, your hardly even supposed to get soy sauce in your rice x]

(and, they're supposed to provide you w/ a warm towel too wipe your hands w/ anyway)

SSJup81 07-09-2008 12:26 AM

Both, since it depends on the type of sushi I'm eating, but for the most part, I just use chopsticks for practice.

While I suppose you could avoid the soy sauce bit by being very careful, it would be pretty close to impossible to pull it off without getting any rice (or rice stickiness, at least) on your fingers.

I personally don`t mind the rice as much as the fish scent. And just wiping it away with the oshibori doesn`t help - it`s only hot when you get it before you start eating.

It’s kind of a nickname that I have heard and always used. Because the sushi travels around the conveyer belt kind of like a mary-go-round.

I know of a few 100 yen sushi. One in Yokosuka, one in Fukuoka, two in Sasebo, and one in Okinawa.

I dunno, I just like using chopsticks a lot more than using my fingers.
Even when oshibori is provided, I just don't like the feeling of my fingers getting sticky or messy or anything.
I'm a neat freak as well, so..

okiron 07-16-2008 06:29 AM

fingers for me.

Aota 08-08-2008 07:25 PM

I don't understand what's so hard about using chopsticks. xD

I guess maybe it's because I've been using them since I was five.

But, to answer the question... I prefer those certain moments when I do get sushi, to use chopsticks. Especially if there's wasabi or ginger dip.
