so...what's the deal with pocky?

Why do people like pocky so much? I mean, it's essentially a pretzel stick dipped in chocolate...or whatever else flavor.
I mean, you want pocky, you want cheap pocky? Get pretzel, get chocalate or whatever, melt it, and dip it. Wala. Instant pocky :/
But seriously, why does everyone love it so... Also, If I could get an opinion
from one who lives in japan aswell. Arigatou

Well, by technical terms, they're not pretzels, but "biscuit sticks" But basically, yeah, pretzels. I'm not saying they taste bad, but I don't think they're the greatest either.

I do see where you are coming from that it does not seem that big a deal, I was a bit like that at first but it grew on me the more I ate - I even get it delivered to me now hehehe

I don't know about everyone else, but I love it simply for the fact that it is something that can link me to my love (obsession?) of Japan. I've never visited the land of the rising run, and eating pocky kind of connects me to the country in a way. Also, I'm not complaining about the taste! I, of course, only eat the chocolate flavoured variety. I wouldn't even think of putting the green tea flavour past my lips :p

That's what I believed most people eat it for. That's why I tried it. But, I've got to say, the only kind I get excited about is the almond one.

we already had a thread like this some where. hehehehe so i will just say what i said in there those crack sticks are good they got crack in them lol. j/k

no pocky is not a pretizel and it is far from. Beening that i was a pasty cheif assistance and a cook for a few years. I will tell you what it is. it the dough it also give a different taste. Pretizels are a biscute/bread dough mix usely cooked till almost burned. This is why they have such dark color to them. note these doughs are also not sweet dough but a savory very little if any sugar in them. tradtional pretezls are made from bread dough only but the kind you get in the bag are the mix dough.

Pocky is a made from a sweet biscute dough this is why they are different the actual stick has a sweetness to it. It is also not cooked as long.

pocky can may also be made from a biscute/cookie dough because it does not look like it rise to much like pretezls. meaning no or very little yeast in the cooking process.
