So I want to learn to cook Japanese food... - 10-24-2008, 07:20 PM

However, I cannot find a place that does courses for a reasonable price in London.

There is the Japan Centre, which requires you to not only pay 280 pounds (I think it was per lesson) but ALSO buy the proper knife needed (which itself costs 180+ pounds.

Are there any places which does Japanese cooking courses for a reasonable price? OR is it best to just get a Japanese recipe book and just work by myself.

The best way for me to learn Japanese cooking is from Japanese friends. It's free and I was able to learn a lot from them, but... I have also tried on my own with the guide of a Japanese recipe book. So honestly, I don't think it's so important to take a Japanese cooking course, especially if it's so expensive. Best way is to ask your Japanese friends or get a Japanese recipe book. It's very easy!

Yes I would invest in the friends and the cook book. I have an asian cook book that has a few Japanese recipes in it.
When you search on google though you get VERY traditional recipes. But the only problem for me at least is that I don't have an asian market. So getting some of the ingridents is difficult. -.-
