Well, it's SUPPOSED to be cabbage. I'm still convinced it's just the excrement of a paper shredder machine.
That reminds me of how some people seem to regard the shredded radish that comes with sashimi.

I like a little of either of them.... but not a whole lot of it.

I think my first reaction to the cabbage was something like (Internally, not spoken) "Whoo yeah~ bentoooooo! Umeboshi~ Sabaa~ Lett- ... Oh hell no, Japan. >/ Where's the damn lettuce?"

It grew on me with time, but i still don't exactly love it. I can't help it. I see it and it just looks like lettuce, but then it's annoyingly NOT lettuce, and if it's gotten warm, it's got that kind of...brussels sprouts taste. You know the one I mean -__-

Ooh that's TRUE!!! Next time, bento, next time...

When I was at university in northern Osaka they served this with all the club lunches, but at least were nice enough to provide two kinds of dressings to help yourself to.... the good old days...

Actually, that reminds me. Sesame dressing makes it a whole lot better! Or this salad dressing stuff with whole bits of caramelized onion in it. That was good too.

I'd rather eat the cabbage than the sh*t that is served at McDonalds.

Yeah, I found that there's actually a pretty robust selection of dressings here. The other day I tried to make thousand island (ketchup, relish, and mayo, for those of you who hadn't figured that out yet), but I have to report that the differences between American ketchup and mayo and Japanese ketchup and mayo extend into the dressing-creation area as well, and their use in such a way is HIGHLY inadvisable.

I nearly yakked

The bento place I used to order from always drowned the 'shredded paper crap' with mayonnaise. Being that I hate mayo, I always skipped it.
