As far as I can tell Japanese food in the States is pretty close to what you'll find in Lady Zipang, only (more) overpriced.

yes i very much agree.. i hate seeing here (Australia) all the koreans owning japanese restaurants and pretending they are japanese but are OBVIOUSLY not!!

Our local "Japanese" restaurant is owned by an elderly Japanese fellow...managed and operated by Koreans...with all the food cooked/prepared by Mexicans! It's not like 'home'...but we consider it better'n nuthin'...!

Hm, anyone here in the states heard of Benihana's? It's supposedly all Japanese but I said arigato gozaimasu to the host and he looked at me like he was crazy so I was like kayyyyyyyy not very Japanese are you

there is some that have real japanese food, but those are restaurant are usually in japan town. Japan has the best food

Lots of restaurants will adapt their kitchen to suit the local taste. Chinese food for instance.

Heck, even coca cola doesn't taste the same all over the world.
