Names in Japanese

Hi guys I thought of this thread because you have to introduce yourself when you go to japan so you have to say your name and it´s more polite to say your name in japanese

Example: Petra Meier- Petora Myura

If you know names in your language and in japanese post here or post the name here you want to know maybe some1 will post it^^ (pls use the quotation option to answer to one of these posts that everybody knows which name you have translated)

fara7 12-29-2007 05:34 PM

You can replace both イs with a ー, which extends vowel sounds in Katakana words, rather than using another letter. So I believe it would be "ジール ミーラ".

Hatredcopter 12-30-2007 06:37 AM

You could translate Mark in two different ways. I've seen it done both ways many times.

Maaku (マーク) or
Maruku (マルク)

Edit: whoops, too late :P

MarkDuff 12-30-2007 06:40 AM

does it have a meaning?

Gunslinger 12-30-2007 06:46 AM

Hey guys how about Jono (short for jonathon)? thats my birth name (but i hate it) All my friends call me vash.
would appreciate any translation^__^

Hatredcopter 12-30-2007 06:48 AM

No, not really. A native Japanese name usually has some sort of meaning, but since you have a foreign name, it doesn't mean anything.

In Japanese John is ジョン so "Jono" would be ジョノ。

Probably Enjyeru (エンジェル) but if you want to be specific and use the actual Japanese word for angel, it would be 天使 (てんし [Tenshi]).
