こんにちは、Risukopi先生、

Watakushi wa ei no Kanada jin dearu, ni genko toshite nihongo no gakushou.
わたくしは英のカナダ人である、二言語として日本語の 学習. ‘は‘か‘が‘を使用する理解は面倒ですよ! で‘と‘に‘は同様に... ;_;
私の好みの学習参考書は大抵丁寧な形態に書かれる, そしてこれは会話のために面倒である.

^^

heyz wassup fellow japanese learners =D I don't speak, write, or even think abt Japanese words on a daily basis. However, my desire to learn japanese has been aroused by various jap animes and music. Whnever u watch or hear them, theres nearly always an undeniable air of a Japanese mood sorta thing.. I dun really noe how to describe it =P but lately, i've taken a liking to tt feeling and wish to take the language up. But i my com cannot read the jap characters as i hv nt installed any translators.. >_<" and since my xp's nt genuine, i'd really appreciate it if at least one of u guys can teach me jap by writing in "jap words" like sayo-nara or arigato? Thx loads XD

i think counting is hard because there are so many differnt ways to count things because you have the normal ichi ni san..
and hitotsu, futatsu, mittsu ...
but when buying things its hard to remeber because there are differnt ways for different objects e.g.
flat/thin objects- ichi-mai, ni-mai,san -mai
long objects-ippon,ni-hon,san-bon
small objects- ikko-ni-no,san-ko
glassfuls-ippai,ni-hai,san-bai
boxes-hito-hako,futa-hako,ni-hako
and it goes on and on ^^
i can never remember which ones right. can you tell me will it get easy to remember?

It gets easer as it goes on (the more you use it), Try learning more Kanji sooner or latter you'll come across some counters, the basses is around shapes like you said in most of them but some have to do with animals/plants too.

And in the end, it's really not necessary to know all or even many of the counters. If you know the one for indiscriminate objects (hitotsu, futatsu), and then some other basic ones like the ones you mentioned, that's really all you need. If you don't know the counter, you just use the counter for indiscriminate objects and it's perfectly fine.

Besides, I highly doubt that even a native Japanese knows and uses all the counters. Like the counter for single grains of rice, for example... When would you use that? Especially since there's another counter for bowls of rice.

I don`t know about the rest of the Japanese population, but I know my husband and I use different counters for -grains of rice -clumps of rice and -bowls of rice.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.
