A Few Questions. - 05-18-2008, 04:44 AM

Sorry for all the questions here, but I'm puzzled on a few things. All help is appreciated. (Keep in mind that I quite literally understand no Japanese whatsoever, so please respond in English.)

- Let's say I want to negate the adjective aoi (blue). To do this, I simply change the word to 'aoku nai' (not blue).

Now let's say I want to negate the adjective taisetsu (important). What would I change to express the word as 'not important'?

- Another issue regarding negation, except this time with verbs. How would I express the words 'kuru' and 'suru', as 'not kuru' and 'not suru'?

I'm guessing I do something along the lines of changing..:
Kuru to Kunai
(or..)
Kuru to Kuranai
..but I'm not sure. Can anyone clarify?

- Lastly, what does the particle 'to' mean? Here's an example sentence:
Dare o korosou to shite iru? (Who are you trying to kill?)

Taisetsu is a na adjective, so it would be Taisetsu de wa arimasen or Taisetsu janai.

The polite negative form kuru is kimasen and suru is shimasen. I would go into the impolite form, but I don't think you're ready for that.

I might be able to answer your blue question... euhh, to say 'it's blue' I think you would say 'aoi desu'. Desu meaning 'it is' so wouldn't you need to work the negative around the verb?

gomen nasai but i haven't been learning japanese for too long :S

I'm not Japanese, but I can still help you anyway.
The polite way of saying "not important" is "taisetsu ja arimasen", while the casual, short form is "taisetsu ja nai".
The negative forms of "kuru" are "kimasen" (polite) and "konai" (casual). The negative forms of "suru" are "shimasen" (polite) and "shinai" (casual).
Oh, and just so you know, a politer way of saying "aoku nai" is "aoku arimasen".
I hope that answers your questions.

Disregard everything in this thread and tell me this: what's a good site I can use to learn from? Preferably a site that has worked for someone from personal experience.
