"108 Stars of Destiny" - 08-10-2008, 07:29 PM

There's something I don't understand with the title "108 Stars of Destiny" (天導一百零八星).

The first kanji is 天 (ten) and the second kanji is 導 (dou). Tendou means "heaven" yet they use the word "destiny" instead when translating. Tenmei (天命) is supposed to be "destiny". So in other words, it seems like the title should be "108 Stars of Heaven".

You can read the article here: 108 Stars of Destiny - 108 Stars of Destiny - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tendou can also mean "destiny" but it has to (I think) be written this way: 天道 and not the way it is above (天堂)

Most Japanese people interpret 天導 as 'devine guidance', it can mean destiny. But it would be a coinage with a fictional works. 天の導き(ten no mitibiki) is a general version of it.
If anything, 天道 means a heaven's road, a heaven's(natural) rule or the sun as お天道様(otentosama) in Japanese.

Oh thanks very much.

So 天導 is actually not "tendou" but "ten mitibiki".

Also there was a Japanese game called 天導一〇八星. It would be "Ten Mitibiki 108 Sei"?

Nevermind, I think I read that wrong... It would be mitibiki with the き and mitibiku with the く
