It cannot be translated via online dictionary. I tried that too.

But I just want to know what you make out of the bolded phrases.

I haven't really seen anywhere との and 殺し合い

i don't know what the full thing means, but i can guess whatthe words mean:
1. 尸魂界- corpse/spirit world, perhaps realm of the dead.
2. 突入- break into (this one i looked up here: Denshi Jisho - Online Japanese dictionary u should try it)
3. 浦原- urahara, a surname. therez a character named that in bleach, if that's what this sentence is talking abt.
4. との- "lord", it's a title, but it becomes "dono" when added to names, so i'm probably wrong abt its meaning here.
5. 殺し合い- to kill each other. i think that when u add some form of "合" after a verb in pre-masu form, it becomes "each other". e.g. wakari'au (to understand each other), mi'au (to exchange glances), etc. can a pro check this please?

I think との in this case isn't lord, but is と (with) の (making into a noun) "my fight to the death with Urahara"

Hi everyone, first post here ^^
This looks like a great community that i've been looking for that speaks English xD I live in Australia but im currently on an exchange program at Fukuoka and im attempting 2 Kyuu in the Proficiency Test at the end of the year.

My question is something that i've seen come up is the grammar form
～ようとする　and ～ようとしない
in a textbook im using they give an example using a form
「どうしても～ようとしない」
and give an example sentence
母親が買ってきた赤いシャツをどうしても着ようとしな かった。
could anyone help me out with a translation for that? and what does the どうしても part mean as well ><;

「母親が買ってきた赤いシャツをどうしても着ようとし なかった。」　

means "(He) kept refusing to wear the red t-shirt that (his) mother had bought for (him)" or "(He) never wore the red t-shirt that (his) mother had bought for (him)". The connotation is that the person didn't even try the shirt on despite what others may have been telling him. So the phrase どうしても means 'no matter what' or 'regardless of what'. It expresses a very high degree in a desire to do or not do something.

Examples:

生魚がどうしても食べられない。 = No matter how hard I try, I cannot eat raw fish.

この夏どうしてもハワイへ行きたい。 = I want to go to Hawaii this summer no matter what.

This is the portion that I really don't understand.....is it only that it applies to '合い'?

殺し合い　is like "fight to the death".

How do you get that as the answer?

Do you have to memorize the word....殺し合い as 'fight to death'?

As for me, I thought '殺し合い' had become the meaning 'killing agreement'. ><U
