Yes, shinjitsu, they are the same word. The verb 'yasumu' means to take a break, to rest, to be absent, etc.. You have incidentally asked a good question, too. For some reason, we seldom write 'Oyasuminasai' with a kanji even though it's a very simple kanji. Same thing with 'Ohayou' or 'Konnichiwa'. These phrases only require pretty simple kanji but we usually write them all in Hiragana. If I may take a wild guess, I think this is because Japanese parents (and teachers) want their kids to be able to write these important everyday phrases as soon as possible, that is before they learn the necessary kanji in school.

I've been hunting for HALCALI lyrics for ever. A friend just sent me the lyrics for the song "It's PARTY TIME!", but the majority of it is in kanji. Sadly, I only recognize a few of them. TT_TT . I'll post the lyrics here. I'd appreciate any help at all -- I'll need the romaji, and if it's not to hard the english. BUT if the english is too much I can at least translate that. (I'm just lazy...) BUT I REALLY DO NEED HELP WITH THE KANJI. Arigatou ooki. (BTW the song is really catchy, I recommend it and any other of their songs)

If someone offers you food, how do you politely tell them in japanese you don't eat/like it without tasting it first. Would you use 'maamaa' or is there something else?

I don't think there is a polite way to say that.
It depends on the situation, but what if you try it and don't like it. It's one thing to say "I don't eat squid." No one would be offended by that (and this is anywhere in the world, not just Japan), but to say "Let me taste it first" and then say "Oh, I don't like the taste" really isn't going to fly. You might be OK, if it was something a little exotic (like squid or octopus or horse), but staple foods in Japan aren't spicy, so unless you are allergic, there is no reason not to eat it. The effects of the war are still felt, and food is something that isn't wasted at near the rate it is in the USA. We just don't appreciate it as much. Kids don't have "tastes" as much, as they are taught to eat what is put in front of them, so the idea of not liking something is a little more foreign, there. But they do understand that Japanese eat things that aren't eaten in other parts of the world, and are forgiving if you don't like a certain food.
