That's way I learned so much when I went to that summer camp for 2 years in a row; all they spoke there was Japanese.

This obviously doesn't work for people who are just starting out, but teaching Japanese to someone else is really a good experience, good practice too.

So, not knowing a word of Japanese I still fell in love with the movie Ima, Ai Ni Yukimasu. So much in fact I ordered the picture book from the same movie. There's not very much text in it so I uploaded the text here:

It's a long shot but maybe someone could help me out in translating what is told in these pictures? I can e-mail them as well if that is preferred. My e-mail is nixoninc@fastmail.fm

Thanks for reading!

I have a friend who is a Japanese transfer student so she isn't good at speaking/ understanding english easily. So to warn you ahead of time, I may be posting questions and request alot.

To start out, I would like to know some simple greetings and introductions, please.

Thanks.

When meeting someone for the first time, you start with:
Hajimemashite.
Then, you say your name without any suffixes.
Watashi no namae wa ... desu.
Afterwards, you can add some other information about yourself, then finish with:
Yoroshiku onegai shimasu.

If you want to learn how to say anything specifically (i.e. I am ~ years old, I come from ~, etc), don't hesitate to ask.

辛 means 8th in rank or eighth sign of the Chinese calendar... which doesn't make a whole lot of sense since the eighth sign in the Chinese zodiac is the sheep/lamb.
運 means fortune or luck.

So, I suppose a translation would be "Eighth Fortune" or something like that.

Does this help?

Like/Dislike:
Watashi wa ~ ga suki desu.
I like ~.
Ex: Watashi wa anime to manga ga suki desu.
I like anime and manga.

Watashi wa ~ ga suki ja arimasen.
I don't like ~.

Alternatively, you could say suki ja nai, which is less formal. Or, if you feel really strongly about it, like you actually hate it, you could say ga kirai desu.

Also, if you wanted to say "I like writing," or something where what you like is a verb, you need to add something to the verb in order to nominalize it. You can't just say "Watashi wa kaku ga suki desu." (Kaku means "to write"). If you're interested, I'll be happy to explain that to you in more detail.

Age:
Watashi wa ~sai desu.
I am ~ years old.
Ex: Watashi wa juu nana sai desu.
I am 17 years old.

Location:
Watashi wa ~ kara kimashita.
I came from ~
Ex: Watashi wa Nihon kara kimashita.
I came from Japan. (Not true, just an example ^_^)

Hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
