I have a question. I was trying to make sense of a word that was not Japanese by typing it in Japanese. Please don't ask why it was in Hiragana, that is irrelevant.

The word had the sound 'wi' in it, so I tried to type 'wi.' It came out as うい. Is うい pronounced 'wi'?

うぃ not　うい (notice the size difference in the first い)

Right. うぃ would be pronounced "Wi" and うい would be pronounce U-I (two syllables).
