"minna kara ha" is hard to translate when there's no context. My best guess here is "I am callled xxxxx by everyone." Doesn't something like 'yobarete iru' or 'iwarete iru' follow 'minna kara ha'? If so, minna kara ha means 'by everyone'.

Yup, I think so, some character (maybe the professor) told that he was calll XXX by everyone.

One more thing, "kimi ha" means "anata ha", in other words. Right?

As far as meaning, yes. But if you know the other person's name, it's much more common to say 'xxxx san' instead of saying 'you'. 'You' can sound pretty direct to the Japanese ears so we often avoid using it. I meantion this because so many Japanese-learners abroad don't seem to know this fact.

Too right. I didn't learn until my penfriend corrected me a few years back. That was after studying for 6 years or something. Heh.

Moral of the story: If you cant go to Japan just yet, get a pen friend or two. Now. hehe.

The "ni" part definitely needs the rest of the sentence to understand the context, but I'd throw a blind "to" as it stands.

tomodachi -> friends

the "o" is just making it a polite honorific reference to friends.

And how would you ask someone the name they preferred to be called?
As in Tom or Thomas, where it is strictly the person's choice not a level of formality in question.
