But maybe some help on symbol perhaps? - 12-23-2008, 07:50 AM

Would anyone be aware of what this symbol means?

If so please may you enlighten as to its meaning.

Thank you

It looks like a very rough representation of the character for "public." I've seen it in the word koen or park.

This one 心 ?It's called a character, and it reads しん, meaning heart or mind, or inner strength or spirit.

It would most likely be gibberish. Japanese doesn't work the same way - while in Chinese they generally form coherent ideas, and they do to an extend in Japanese, the sound they make is important. So throwing two Kanji together hopping it'll make an idea is like mixing mustard and ice cream.

Wait, Keat, are you sure it's heart? It's seriously hard to read, and it looks like 公, which means public and is in the word kouen 公園, or park.

I think it's fairly safe to say a Japanese person would see OP's kanji and read it as 公, not 心.

And it's more accurately called a logograph, not a symbol.

It would be nice if we had a Japanese person to distinguish what it looks like wouldn't it? I guess being Chinese isn't good enough, but hey, I think I got it right ;]
