What does this mean? - 03-30-2009, 05:02 PM

桜がで
風の音楽に
囀るだ

I'm guessing it's a haiku, but I don't quite get it.

The best i got was.
at the sakura (tree?)
In the winds music
it sings? singing? (a bird is singing?)

I think you are looking at 2 separate phrases there, but I might be wrong.
I see it as "it's a cherry tree and it sings in the wind". I doubt I got it right tho hee hee. Above all the dictionary form of a verb followed by the copula is completely new to me.

Cherry trees.
The music of the wind chirps.

くらい空、

That quote in itself is a bit of poetry.

The evanescent beauty of the sakura helps even the most illiterate Japanese man turn into a poet. For two weeks per year, that is...
