A little help please - 04-17-2009, 02:55 AM

Greetings everyone, here I have a photo of a sword my Grandfather came back with from World War II , he called it a banzi sword, but I'm not so much intrested in its real name (if that isent it) but what the writing on it says, I've aske a man from Japan I know, he said he could not read it and told me how rare they are in Japan to have a sword like that. But in any event anyone that could tell me what this says, I would be more than willing to provide more photos of them all and close up's of the hilts where more writings are, but they are locked up in a safe box at my bank, so it will take some time for me to get them if somone can read this one

Be patient. There are people here who can read it who are probably on Japan time.

It says 田中眞作.

It's a man's full name, Tanaka Shinsaku.

I couldn't read the last two characters. Unlike some people, I won't throw out a guess.
