Ipod Apps - 07-20-2009, 04:46 PM

So I recently got an Ipod touch for my birthday, and well I was wondering if there were any apps that I could get that would help me in learning Japanese.
I've searched for some and there are so many that I'm not sure which ones to get.
Can anyone lend me some opinions?

There are quite a few good apps. One being Human Japanese, which will teach you the very basics of Japanese; useful for beginners.

Another app strictly for kanji is iKanji touch. If you're looking for any kanji related apps, definitely buy this one. Probably the only one you'll need.

KATSUYO, is an app for conjugating Japanese verbs. Really neat.

Of course, there are many more for for teaching hiragana & katakana, kanji, etc. But these are the ones I recommend. Hiragana and Katakana can be self taught in a few days, so, might not be worth spending money over an app for.

There is another thread discussing available Japanese learning apps.

To the person who posted above, unless you have something productive to post, don't.

Kotoba.
It's a Japanese-English English-Japanese dictionary.

キングソフト辞書
(Kingsoft Dictionary)
Same thing as above.

産経新聞
Sankei Newspaper; A Japanese newspaper.

ShinKanji
An electronic Kanji dictionary.

今日の中吊り (Today's Advertisement)
This one is kind of hard to explain.
Basically you can view advertisements that are in trains, magazines, etc.
(Just kind of fun when you're bored.)

クーリエ-ジャポン
(Courrier Japon)
Basically a Japanese magazine.

I don't know of any apps that actually "teach" you Japanese. Not that I would recommend that anyways. These apps just help getting connected to Japan, and give some useful and helpful reading material.

I don't know your Japanese level, but if you can't read Japanese at all then 産経新聞, 今日の中吊り, and クーリエ-ジャポン are going to be useless to you.

EDIT: Also, all of these apps are totally free. You're welcome.

I also use iKanji Touch. I'm currently set to take JLPT 1, and iKanji Touch has the kanji lists that appear in each JLPT rank, so it's pretty useful for me.

Anki, the SRS.

I'm thinking of buying one just for the purpose of studying japanese but it's so damn expensive
