Translation Help With a Picture Please - 08-31-2010, 04:26 AM

Hi all,

I would very much appeciate some help from anyone who can translate what is being said in the attached picture. I would like to get the name of the dish so I may seek it out in Canada or even make it myself.

I ate at a restaurant in Shinjuku station in Tokyo. I had an excellent soup/stew with rice, clams, tofu?, shrimp, squid, etc. It was fairly spicy but was one of the best things I ate when in Japan. I tried to translate on google but was only able to get at チゲス-プヰ (Chigesu - Puwi). There is no relevant matches when I google this term.

Thanks very much in advance for any help!.

Chris

You have a kanji problem there. You are looking for this:

北海 チゲスープ丼

This is a Korean dish, not a Japanese one. To look for it in Canada or on the web, use the Korean term "Jjigae" instead of チゲ. You'll find lots of recipes.

The term 北海 チゲスープ丼 is only used in this restaurant.

Out of curiosity, do you read スープ丼 as スープどん?

Yeah, you would unless this restaurant insists that you read it as どんぶり. Since 北海 チゲスープ丼 is a proper noun, the restaurant can decide how it wants it read.
