Red Dragon that could make rainfall stopped.
Most folklores about dragons are related to rivers or rainfall, but the folklore which shows the reason why Ryuuchizan-hirokawa Temple in Kawachi County, Oosaka-fu was build is something special and strange.
It was 673-686 when Emperor Tenmutenno was ruling. People in Kawachi County were suffered from shortage of water because of no rainfall. Then came En-no-onozu who is famous disciplinant as the pioneer of Shygendo. He used magical power in Hirokawa Mountain, and summoned White Dragon from the Heaven. The rain started to fall at once and everybody was so pleased. But unfortunately the rain never stopped and the levees gave away. So he used magical power again and summoned Red Dragon, that cleared away the rain-clouds.
The legend indicates that dragon may become the God of rainfall and the God of sunshine according to the difference of color. This is interesting.

The second fig. (In fact, this is the previous paragraph.) - 12-28-2010, 12:15 PM

The beauty which is not influenced by the theory of (Yin-Yang and) the five elements.

"Red" is the color of Sanctuary, or the color of congratulation. Temples and shrines are painted with Chinese-red (vermilion) dye which is made from red hydrogen sulfide called "synsya". "Synsya" was said to have charm against evil- spirit as well as santi-septic action and insect-proof effect. Though oriental people like red color, we can find only a very few folklores about Red Dragon.
I think it is probably because the color RED is thought to be the color of Fire due to the theory of (Yin-Yang and) the five elements, though Dragon is thought to be the God of Water.
People have been loving Red Dragon even though there are very few folklores.
We often see ceramics which is painted the figure of Red Dragon. We often see Red Dragons at Jya-odori (Snake dance or Dragon dance) at a new year festival.
Don't you think that Red Dragon has the beauty beyond reasonable-description? Like the beauty of the power of live rising from deep inside our soul, when we see the body of Red Dragon which seems to be the aggressive fire.

(Sorry for my very poorly written English. )
