過ぎる - 01-14-2011, 07:36 AM

Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to remove "通り" in the following phrases?

高島屋の前を通り過ぎる

家の後ろを通り過ぎる

幹線道路を通り過ぎる

I might say a stupid thing, but I guess there is a difference in meaning between the 2. 過ぎる simply means pass, while 通り過ぎる points out that you pass through something. The way I see it I can say we 東京をもう過ぎた if we are traveling by train and that doesn't really mean we passed through town (maybe the train we are on just passes by the town and not inside). While using 通り過ぎる suggests passing through the town.
Now, I don't know the difference between 通る and 通り過ぎる coz I think they both mark passing through.
