Help in understanding part of a song - 02-27-2011, 07:53 AM

I'm trying to understand a part of the song "PLEDGE" by the GazettE. This is the part in question.

寂しさに包まれた日々は互いを濡らし
理解を求め合い 繰り返して また深く想える

永遠を感じたのは嘘じゃない
確かに君の隣で

That last line makes me wonder who or what is next to the subject? A lot of translations that I've seen for this song just assume that it is the singer. However, when I look at the first line, it makes me wonder if it's actually loneliness that is beside the subject.

I a'int so good at English, but let me try.

寂しさに包まれた日々は互いを濡らし
理解を求め合い 繰り返して また深く想える

days filled up with loneliness make both of us damp (or drop tears) We repeat requiring the mutual understanding and we fell deeply in the labyrinth of thought.

永遠を感じたのは嘘じゃない
確かに君の隣で

It's not a lie that I felt the eternity, certainly beside you.

Hi! I think I understand everything in that part. The only part I don't understand is the last part, where he says that he feels eternity. Why does he feel eternity? I think it might be related to the part at the beginning, where he says they were wrapped in loneliness. I think the loneliness made him feel eternity. Then at the end he says that loneliness is also beside her. Could this be correct?

To me the lyrics looks like a song about lovers who are about to brake up. and the last part is that dude is remembering the really first days with his girlfriend he actually was feeling the eternity.

In the song they already broke up. I was thinking that when they were apart it felt like an eternity to him because he wanted to see her again. That would seem to make more sense. Also, earlier in the song is this.

立ち尽くす二度目の冬

I think this is talking about them being apart.

Tipsygypsy, are you a native Japanese speaker? I try to keep track of these things for my own benefit. I've seen you post here and there, accurately from what I recall. Just curious. In any case, welcome to the Japanese board! (You've got a lot of posts, but no way were they all made in the language section, so I think you're relatively new here.)

Second, I'm not sure if the mods would be too happy with your sig if they looked at it. Assuming I'm reading 千刷り correctly.

1. Cool.
2. For one thing, I have a script running in my browser that colors native speakers' names a different color, so I can see quickly whose opinions truly matter on Japanese language issues.
3. I wondered about that.
4. "Oh gush" would be a really good pun in this case.
