Japanese Textbook - 08-07-2011, 04:12 PM

I'll be taking Japanese this upcoming semester but the books they require are:

Nakama 1A (W/Sam & Code), Hatasa
ISBN 1111419353 Edition 2
List Price
$147.65

Nakama 1A Student Activities Manual (Sam) W/Code, Hatasa
ISBN 1111294186 Edition 2
List Price
$113.70

I'm trying to find them for cheaper by checking online (Half, Ebay, Amazon) but so far.. no luck. The ISBN doesn't show up but I have found Nakama with different ISBN numbers.

Are these the same thing as the above? Half.com: Nakama 1a: Introductory Japanese : Communication, Culture, Context by Seiichi Makino, Yukiko Abe Hatasa and Kazumi Hatasa (2008, Paperback): Introductory Japanese : Communication, Culture, Context(9780618966288): Yukiko Abe Hatasa: Books
Half.com: Nakama 1a: Student Activities Manual by Seiichi Makino, Yukiko Abe Hatasa and Kazumi Hatasa (2008, Paperback, Student Edition): Student Activities Manual(9780618965700): Yukiko Abe Hatasa: Books

If not, does anyone know where I can buy these books for cheaper - other than going to the school bookstore and purchasing used versions [as used versions aren't available online]?

Because books like Genki still use vocab like "cassette tape" and "vcr"

If you're going to college for your first semester, don't buy any textbooks. Go to the uni library (they'll have the textbooks on reserve—meaning no one can check them out, only use them in the library) and use it. This will force you to study it every day (since you can't just say at 11pm before going to bed "oh I'll do it right before class").

I just saved you $1000 a year.

(but you'll still have to buy the workbook—if it's anything like Yookoso!, there will be pages you fill in the blanks for and turn in as homework)

Also, old editions of Japanese textbooks will be very similar (dare I say 99% identical?) to the new version. It's not like Japanese language is much of a radically changing field.

I prefer having textbooks in my procession in case I'd like to study at odd hours when the library is closed or between lunch breaks at work! I may try that though.

Odd thing is, the price of Nakama 1A Student Activites Manual dropped to $72. I'm glad since I hadn't bought the book earlier. Just, would it drop more? Wish there was online free PDF version, haha but since these are newer..
