Could someone please help with my translation? - 11-16-2011, 05:24 PM

I'm translating English sentences into Japanese and I came across one that confused me.

"They were built about 400 years ago when this town was famous and busy"

Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you!

You would probably receive quicker (and better) responses if you posted your own attempt first.

Thanks for the advice!

My guess was something like "約400年前に湯名で賑やかな町の時で建てられまし 。"
In romaji "Yaku yon hyaku nen mae ni, yumei de nigiyaka na machi no toki de tateraremashita."

But that doesn't sound at all right to me.

Thanks again!

Thanks.

1. The "this town" part is is missing in your translation.

2. 湯名? Did you mean to say 有名( = famous)? 湯 means "hot water".
「有名」 is read ゆうめい, not ゆめい.

My own translation:
「(それらは)約400年前、この町が有名で賑やかだ った頃に建てられました。」

If you have not learned 「~~頃に」, you can replace it 「時」 or 「時に」, but not 「時で」.
