How to write...?

I want to say that I've been studying Japanese for 3 years (and still am) in response to the question 'how long have you been studying Japanese?

Would the question be

Likewise, would this answer make sense?
(As I want to say I have been studying and not that I have studied)

Good questions (because these tenses are everyone's weak points).

Both the question and answer need to have います in them, NOT いました. If you use いました, you have already quit studying Japanese.

Another VERY natural way of saying these :
(In fact, this would be the native speaker's choice.)
