Having trouble when using "wo" and "wa!" - 07-24-2007, 03:10 AM

I'm sort of of having trouble with this. Like when you say something like "Please hand me the water." Should you use "wa" or "wo?" Why? I don't know when to use "wo."

This one is easy. You have no choice but to use 'wo' in that sentence. I'm assuming that you are wondering what to put after 'water', correct? If so, use 'wo' because 'water' is the object of that sentence. 'Wa' is used only after the subject of a sentence. Had the sentence been "The water is cold", you would have used "wa" because 'water' is the subject of that sentence.

"Mizu wo totte kudasai" = "Please hand me the water."

wo, wa, and ga usage may be one of the hardest things in Japanese to perfect. Keep at it, though!
