Hey Catalina,

If you want to learn Japanese, I strongly recommend learning to read and write whilst also learning the grammer.

What I found helpful were the following books "Let's Learn Hirgana" "Let's Learn Katakana" and "Let's Learn Kanji" all written by Yasuko Kosaka Mitamura.

All were extremely easy to follow, then I just browsed these forums for Learning Grammer (have links/bookmarks on laptop if you want them).

Learning to read/write and learning the grammer I found is vital!. As for pronunciation I just watched the Japanese news on tv, and downloaded a whole lot of japanese audio online (and of course watching all my anime in japanese).

sam.

I still have HEAPS to learn!!, I'd be able to get by, but not live there comfortably. :P

It takes abit of time to learn all the charaters (Hiragana/Katakana), but if you spend an hour or so a day you'll pick it up in no time. As for the Kanji that takes awhile to learn...that takes ages to learn actually :S.......Learning individual words isn't to hard, Just getting your head around the characters and grammer is the worst (hardest)....

....I guess you could just move there and be forced to learn it by not speaking a word of English!, I'm sure it'll come a whole lot quicker than learning from a book/online/teaching yourself!.

Either way, If you like teaching yourself and you have fun teaching yourself, you'll learn a whole lot quicker.

sam.
