Konnichiwa/Ohayou

Hi all!
I was wondering, in the morning when I see someone I say "Ohayou", but what if I see a friend? It's better to use the more informal konnichiwa or I still say ohayou? I mean, what a japanese guy would prefer to say?

Nope... Konnichiwa works only for the afternoon :) So i guess you should still use ohaio when meeting a friend...

'Ohayou' is technically the informal way of saying it. That's what you'd say to a friend. 'Ohayou gozaimasu' is the formal way, which you'd probably say to your boss, or other people that are above you.

Nope, it works in the a.m., too. Or do you never speak to your neighbors?

Ohayo is used in the morning till 11am, from 11am to 6pm you say Konnichi wa, and from 6pm on it's Konban wa. :)

For some very casual friends, I just use "Uzz!" or "Yo!"

Sorry, where exactly are you in Japan and how long have you been there? The real world isn't a textbook, Suki. :)

I lived in Japan for a year, and never heard "konnichiwa" being used in the morning whatsoever. "Ohayou" can be used in the afternoon, though, if it's the first time in the day that you're seeing someone.

Anyway, I think you're wrong about "konnichiwa."

Thank you all for the answers! :)

Huh?

I usually say Konnichiwa. I've never really heard of there being exact times for uses. I've said konnichiwa in the evening when meeting someone. Is there really a difference???
