~くれましたか [question form]
 
I have a question about くれます. What I understand is that when someone gives "you" something, you use くれます. But when someone gives "someone else" something, you use あげます

So, in this example (taken from みんなの日本語 2) :

だれが お金を はらって くれましたか ? --> someone else asks
。。。山田さんが はらってくれました 。--> receiver answers

In the question sentence, since the speaker is not the "receiver" but is "someone else" why is it not だれが お金を はらって あげましたか ?

Is it because both the speakers are the same family? Only in this case?
