Question Can someone translate this sentence please? - 11-07-2007, 03:11 PM

Hello,

I'm reading the manga Naruto and there was a sentence in one of the chapters which I couldn't understand at all.
This is the sentence:

サスケ君は私が助け出してみせる!
sasuke-kun wa watashi ga tasukedashite miseru!

It's a girl who is saying all those things to Naruto.
In the manga picture she is running(in tears) towards Naruto who went berserk and she screamed this sentence to him so that he could stop now.
Sasuke is a friend of both and Naruto went berserk in order to save Sasuke and the girl was yelling that to him.
This is the context.

I was talking with a friend about this and he translated the sentence like that:'I will rescue Sasuke-kun just watch!'
But then another friend of mine said that the correct translation of the sentence is:'I will rescue Sasuke-kun for you!'

They are both not japanese and had problems with translating it and made me pretty confuse.

So,can someone please tell me what the correct english translation of that sentence is?

"The suspension, you show I producing to help,!"
That should be the correct translation.

サスケ君は私が助け出してみせる!

This sentence is not easy to translate into English in one sentence because of the verb compound at the end. Technically speaking, 助け出してみせる consists of three verbs!

But I actually think that both of your friends did a pretty good job. The sentence means "I will get Sasuke-kun out of trouble. I will show it to you."

Thank you guys for your responses and help.

The 'for you' part was wrong then right?Or can that mean that as well because she is declaring that to someone else?

Btw,Masaegu are you japanese?

Right. One cannot say it was wrong at all. The speaker wants to show the listener what he intends to do. You will often hear the してみせる ending in dramatic speech, but not too often in real life.

And yes, I am Japanese.

What exactly does the してみせる ending mean?
So we can say that the girl was willing to help Naruto and wanted to rescue Sasuke for him and for herself right?

It means 'to show someone that one is capable of doing something'. It's like saying 'I will do this and you will be the witness'. That's why you hear this ending more often in dramas, manga, films, etc. than in real life. It shows a firm determination of the speaker.
