I just love Japanese horror movies, they are the masters of horror. Lots better than the cheap "bloody" crap over here like Friday 13th and Halloween. Joyu-Rei gave me nightmares.

Yeah, I think they're smarter, more atmospheric, more suspenseful than a lot of American ones. It's the 'why' in the Japanese (and Asian) horror that always lands harder--so many American horrors, the killer is just crazy, or has mom issues, or something simple and mundane. A lot of the best Asian horrors have something solid behind them--revenge, justice, something meaty.

I loved Shutter--the Thai version and the Masayuki Ochiai version. Prime example--something dark from out of his past that haunts him, not just some random violence.

Made my own 'spirit photo' like in the movie on their DVD release site:

Shutter

Ended up seeing the photo in a banner ad when I was checking an Evite!

I dunno why I keep bringing this movie up, but has anyone seen the Ring spoof in Scary Movie 4?

Hello

The fingertips iced over, the feeling faded
told myself I'd be happy just to make a clean break

I remember feeling like I was going mad
going to sleep with the urge to destroy

Told myself I'd be happy to be completely rid of you
every last trace
a line of something unfamiliar running down my face

No matter how you try to escape,
you won't get what you desire

No matter how you scream,
that which is broken can never be put together again

the "scary movies" have their funny parts but overall I think they're kinda dumb. Most of those spoof movies are stupid and really the only ones I like are the Lesli Neilson movies(hilarious).

Indeed. But, the little Grudge boy and main blond speaking Japanese were funny.
