Polls: J-horror- Ringu or The Ring? - 04-29-2010, 06:43 PM

Those of you who have seen The Ring and the Japanese original version, Ringu, which did you like better and why? If you didn't like either one, why is that? And what do you think of other American J-horror remakes like The Grudge, Pulse, and Darkwater?

To me american horror is gimmicky and too fast and lacks story that the foreign counterparts give. Even poorly acted movies can be good by weaving a story into it. I cant really explain it better than that. I J-Horror

I've never seen the Japanese version, but from the pics and clips I've seen of it, the American one is visually more haunting. I'm still terrified of that girl. From what I've seen of the Japanese version, it just doesn't linger with me like the American version.

I've never seen the Japanese version of The Grudge either, but I can probably say that the novel beats both versions. From reviews I've read (and from what I've seen), there isn't any coverage on Kayako's past other than her being murdered. Also, neither versions contain the notebook that the original novel has that has Kayako's thoughts on the people entering the house, and her ideas on how and why to kill them (the American one has a notebook, but it didn't serve as big a purpose as it did in the novel). Her reasoning and thoughts toward humanity is what makes the novel more scary - the movies are just a series of deaths, and nothing more.

the Japanese concept of horror is really authentic. I love the way their story always goes: uncertain. some or only a few foreign movies have predictable endings which makes them boring. Really like Japanese Horror!!!!

I have never seen the Japanese version, but usually the original is better. There are exceptions, of course.

i would just like to add that the American version is based on the Japanese version. That says enough in of itself for me at least.
