Classical/Orchestral music thread - 06-25-2009, 04:12 PM

Anyone here listen to orchestral/classical music?

Personally it's my favorite genre of music. But this forum seems to focus purely on J-pop and J-rock. Classical deserves some attention too!

If you have any classical/orchestral Japanese music you'd like to share, please post it here!

anyways, don't know if anyone has heard of this album or not.
Suzumiya Haruhi no Gensou is a surprisingly good collection of orchestrated songs from the TV series. It's definitely no Mozart or anything, but since many of you like anime I thought it would be cool to start off with something familiar.

such as:

I think it's all arranged and played by the Tokyo Philharmonic.
enjoy!

Not hard to believe at all. I've been listening to all of those guys since I was about 14, and I still do. I actually just recently went to a Rachmaninoff concert. It was awesome.
Do you know of any old Japanese classical composers? I guess there weren't really that many. Classical music from Japan seems to be either imported or more modern/recent.

Anyways, Here's another one.
My favorite piece by Joe Hisaishi, whom you should all know.

One more by Joe Hisaishi

Easily the most beautiful piece in Mononoke Hime.

Some of my favourites:

Joe Hisaishi - Summer

Ryuichi Sakamoto - Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence Live (I would be a sin for this song not to be in this thread)

Yoko Kanno - East of the Peninsula

Yoko Kanno - The Man in The Desert

Yoko Kanno - The Ascension Rain

I love a bit of classical music every now and then. It's nice to break away from the heavy guitars and singing every so often =]

I was just about to give up on this thread. But it seems like there are a couple people here now. I'm glad I'm not the only one lol.

@Aniki - thanks for posting these videos! Can't believe I forgot about Ryuichi Sakamoto.

@Kyousuke - thanks for posting Kyousuke

@coolforcats1 - haha, I feel the same way. although, after a while i get a little tired of classical and have to switch back to rock lol.

anyways, heres my personal favorite by Sakamoto:

It's a bit repetitive, but still really beautiful.

EDIT: the second song in this video is by Gustavo Santaolalla. And if you haven't seen babel. Go see it now.
