Indie

Does anyone know any REALLY good Japanese indie bands like Number Girl ? In particular I love their great bass lines. Any band in Japan with a really great bassist has been hard to find for me so far. Don't recommend me anything like Miyavi or Ancafe. Too noisy for me! I like AKFG type stuff more but doesn't necessarily have to sound like AFKG or Number Girl... just want to hear the best that Japan has to offer!

Thanks!

Heard of the band called The Pillows?

One of my favorites from them, "The Third Eye":

A few of their other songs.
"Ladybird Girl": YouTube - Ladybird Girl - The Pillows
"Carnival": YouTube - The Pillows - Carnival
"Ride On Shooting Star": YouTube - The Pillows - Ride On Shooting Star

This band won't be indies anymore after the thirtieth of August, BUT!!! If you're looking for really good bassists in Japanese bands, here is my favorite, the dude actually knows how to play his instrument:

YouTube - 摩天楼オペラ Matenrou Opera - "Yo's solo" LIVE

YouTube - Matenrou Opera (摩天楼オペラ) - 電脳パラノイア *listen at 2:03 so you can hear the bass solo

YouTube - Matenrou Opera - Datura [ダチュラ] *put on headphones/earbuds and start listening at around 2:37

To be honest, you should listen to most of the bands' music, since the bass is amazing.

Another indies band that "has" a good bassist and started just last year in November would be LIX. The reason why I say "has" is because it's just a support bassist for their live shows, I don't know if he's the one playing when they record their music.

YouTube - LIX. - Re:vive

Might wanna try Supercar. Although they're alternative rock/electronica.

SUPERCAR - Cream Soda

SUPERCAR- Hello(Live)

Their ex-bassist/vocalist Miki Furukawa has some good songs too.

Miki Furukawa - Candy Girl

Miki Furukawa - サイコア*リカ(live)

I also love this song. The featured artist is a vocalist, not a band, however.

"Communication" by Hitomi Takahashi.
