I'm not sure where to start with Japanese music! I never heard any sept for when I watch FLCL when the pillows are playing in the background! Is it really worth listining to music you don't even understand?

I guess it's ok for techno, since they don't really have much lyrics.

Can anybody suggest any Jrock or Jtechno/dance?

Japanese don't use the term "R&B", so, yeah, music of this kind made in Japan is basically mixed in with pop music.

In America where "pop" leans more toward white artists and "R&B" leans more toward black artists there is more of a distinction.

Obviously, that doesn't exist in Japan.

That's what I figured but how do you distinguish the difference in style because there is a big one? By the way thanks so much for answering.

Oh yeah, my pleasure. It's nice to have an actually intelligent question asked once in a while.

How to distinguish? That's a good question. Since Japanese don't distinguish, there really isn't an easy way. Listen to some artists influenced by R&B (maybe Amuro Namie or Def Tech...maybe BoA) and then figure out what sounds you like. I am sure other people can direct you to some better artists than I can.
