Without game music, the Japanese gaming industries would be pitting themselves against human nature, and stand to lose more. Music counts for a significant lot, whether you're conscious of it or not. In my experience, playing a game comprises of two main aspects - visual and audio. If they're orchestrated to complement each other to an ideal point, then the music can easily act as an inspirational/motivational resource.
