Collaborations/Side Projects - 08-17-2008, 01:18 PM

This is a thread to talk about collaborations and side projects that you like or want to recommend

My favourite collaboration is the Aids Charity Project red ribbon by Ayaka, Kobukuro, and people from Shonen no kaze, Glay, and ketsumeishi

Also Hyde's new side project, Vamps, is pretty good ^_^

Not in Japan they don't. Flea was ok. The guitarist sucked and had a bad attitude and the singer (can't spell thier names) was an absolute ass. After a while he just walked off stage. short concert and no opening act. the singer hates playing in Japan because the crowd is too mellow. They don't put on a good enough show for him. I guess he forgot who paid and who performs.

the drummer was fantastic. After his buddy's acted like spoiled children and walked off early, he played for 30 - 45 minutes alone, playing with the crowd, communicating with rhythm and had fun.

Talking If i really like Maximum The Hormone.... - 08-17-2008, 06:01 PM

What other bands would i like? I listen to Maximum The Hormone a lot and have been meaning to get into more Jrock, but never know which ones to pick. So if you are all so kind, can you guys suggest some bands similar to MTH?

I'm not in Japan. Just wanted to read some stories of those who have attended concerts in Japan and such. ^^

I keep myself locked to the released albums instead, away from any "concert special" .
IMO, it probably just depends on the actual group. Some artists and groups sound good live or have good stage presence, whereas others don't.

For example, I like Akino Arai lives. She sounds very nice live, but, her type of music might be too mellow for some people, and she usually plays piano and does acoustic stuff. To some, it might be boring to watch a live performance by her, but listening is nice. I've seen her Eden Internet Live...I loved that!! I wish I still had it. She never once went out of tune. Her unplugged performances of some tracks from Shounen Alice was really nice too. With her, most lives are usually in cd-form, like her live-concerts in Europe.

Another group that comes to mind is Dreams Come True. I personally feel that this group has very good stage presence and Miwa of the group sounds good singing live. I've never heard her really go out of tune.

Hmm, oh, m.o.v.e, imo, is a good group to see live, but, like most everyone else I've mentioned, I can only go by DVDs. Seriously, with m.o.v.e concerts, they look like a lot of fun. The audience really seem to get into it and I can say that there's nothing "mellow" about the audience.

Hmm, as for a group or artist I don't like live, I'd have to say Coldplay. Doesn't sound good at all.

That aside, I've never been to a concert, 'cept for an Immature concert back in like 1994 that I was forced into attending, so that my younger (10 year old at the time) cousin wouldn't have to go by herself (I was going on 13) and a Steve Conte concert, but only because of a convention I went to. The stuff with Steve Conte was nice, but I'd rather listen to him, not see him, because of the type of music he does. His voice was okay live, though.

i watched merry on august 12 last year in hibiya koen in hibiya, tokyo. uhm it was okay .. but i bought my tickets the second day they started selling, because at first my dad thought that you couldn't buy tickets from ticketpia using a U.S. credit card, which you actually COULD, but anyway, so my seat was second to last row. seat? yes in that park there were assigned seats .. we didn't SIT but like you had to stand at your seat. so i got like no view whatsoever. and because of the seats [they were kinda like bleachers but not really .. hard to explain] it was really spaced out so i felt awkward yelling and bouncing around, so i wound up not doing so. uhm apparently we japanese people like to headbang a lot. and they always have designated hand gestures that they all do at the same time. so being that i don't live in japan, i was out of the loop. all in all i didn't enjoy it as much as i should have. but then it was my first live so i didn't know anything really, like i forgot to buy goods .. so the tshirts were sold out :[ so i bought shoelaces that said MERRY for like 12 bucks .. and a folding fan for like 15. RIPOFF.

i enjoyed the rentrer en soi concert in new jersey a lot better. :x
