Fishing carp in Japan - 04-09-2009, 10:25 AM

Ok, fishing is a very big thing in Japan but I never hear much about carp fishing here. I know it is like a national emblem and I guessing that is why people arn't hooking many of the massive beasts I see here,

Carp fishing in the UK and Europe is a big sport. I come to Japan and see some of the most spectacular carp and am scared to start fishing them just incase I cause an international incident.

Can anyone clear up the carp situation for me.

thx.

I'm not sure what the laws are regarding Carp fishing in Japan but I would guess that they are well liked, take a long time to grow, and the big fellas are well liked a respected.

My choice would be to keep the rod in the UK

Personally I wouldn't bother. Carp do not taste very good (even if they smell good when cooking), and those who eat them only do so when they have no choice. Better fish are abundant in Japan, it shouldn't be difficult to find a good place to go within commuting distance of wherever you are.
