What is referred to as "Football" in the US is called "American Football" in Japan, as the term "football" refers to soccer pretty much everywhere else.
There are a number of "American Football" teams in Japan, but it isn`t really mainstream. Unfortunately I don`t really have an interest so can`t help the poster. 萱津ヶ原に 名をとどむ もののふどもの 夢のまた夢」 |

American Football is not a professional sport in Japan, but they do have the X-League, which is probably what you are looking for (it has been around since 1987). They have a Bowl to end the season, though games are slightly shorter than ones played in America. There are 3 divisions.
I think the teams are represented by companies instead of cities, because they don't get paid like professional sports players. I don't follow them often but I don't think there is one strongest team over the years, maybe Impulse (Matsushita) since they have won 4 bowls. Silver Star has too, but not since 1999. |
