I have an habit of playing action games with a really calm music playing in the background... Such as Mike Oldfield's Guitars or Tubular Bells II. The Crystal Method is also great in most of the cases. But it's up to ones music tastes really.

What I do when I play games....
I mute the TV and play different radio stations for different sounds. Find a jazz station or electronica station to listen to. Music from those genres IMO are different and stuff you don't hear all the time. ~Yuna7780
