It`s a pet you have in the game. You can get new costumes for it via online content or by completing certain things in the game. The watermelon outfit is a gift you get when you have bought all of the farming rows.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

It doesn`t appear in the very first Monster Hunter on PS2... But does appear in the first PSP one, and I believe all of them from there on out. I only have the 1st, and 2ndG on the PSP so I`m not sure from what point you can change the clothes. You couldn`t in the first PSP one.

Now that I think about it, you should know it`s in the PSP version. They even show it in the opening movie.

MH in PS2, you can't change the pigs costume (I think, it's a long time ago).

MH2 and MH2 Freedom in PSP, you can

Dunno about MH Dos. I never got a chance to play that.

And they just raise your friendship meter whenever you play with a friend. (kinda useless).

....

Yes. I like playing MH. (Currently trying to finish all quests after beating Acantor.)

I have Monster Hunter Portable 2nd (Japanese Version) for PSP and there aren't any pigs in the opening movie, but picking it up again I remembered there is a pig in the opening level. Kawaii ne?

The original PS2 version didn`t even have a pig - at least the version released first in Japan.
