Smile Buy a DSi in Canada or Japan? - 08-15-2009, 07:16 PM

Hi everyone!

I going to be traveling to Japan in October, where I will be touring for a month before returning to Canada. I've recently decided that I would like to purchase a Nintendo DSi, but I'm curious if I'd be better off buying one in Japan rather than Canada.

If I were to buy one in Japan, would it be compatible with the games and DSi-ware available here in Canada? And what, if any, are the advantages to purchasing the device in Japan as opposed to Canada?

Thanks so much for your help!

No. If you do not speak Japanese, then it would be a waste to buy a DSi in Japan. You can access only the Japanse Wiiware, and not the English ones.

Good to know! Thanks for your help on that matter.

When I'm in Japan, can I buy games there to work on my DSi, or would I have to continue to buy them here in Canada?

Thanks again!

The games are region-free, so you can buy games in Japan to work on a Canadian DSi (assuming it is the same as an American DSi).

Though I don't own a DSi, there are French and English versions of DSi as far as I know.

My DSlite was bought from Japan but it has the option on it to turn the language to English, will this not be the same for the DSi?

I'm sorry for all the bad stuff I said and all the feelings I hurt.. Please forgive me

correct. This is not an option for DSi.
