Pac Man Creator Retiring After New Game - 06-06-2007, 08:07 AM

The new version of the iconic Japanese arcade game Pac Man is a faithful interpretation of the 27-year-old original, where players race a character around a digital maze chomping pellets and chasing ghosts.

The new game, "Pac Man Championship Edition," is the second and final version designed by Japanese gaming legend Toru Iwatani, and was created for the final round of the Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Championship in New York.

Iwatani works for Japan's Namco Bandai and will soon retire from active duty at at the game company to spend more time teaching the next generation of game designers at Tokyo Polytechnic University.

It's the end of a very, very significant era! I can't think of one person that hasn't played Pac Man, be it on their cell phone or an actual system.
