Transformers is a US-Japanese co-production from day 1. It was commisioned by Toei from scripts & designs from the USA. It was originally based on a Japanese toy line from Takara, but this was not called Transformers (I don't know what it was called). It become Transformers (in name) once Hasboro licenced the toy for sale into Western markets.

Like Pokemon, Transformers is a series whose entire purpose is to promote the toy range (they make far more money on the toys)- what, you thought they make this crap for artisitic reasons

Lol you are very knowledgable on this.
I never knew it was a joint project.
Very cool.

The movie was pretty good. Really slow in the begining though.

yeah, it's pretty cool...CG is cutting-edge, plenty of action, some funny lines too like the "probably Japanese" punch line...Megatron is such a bad ass...that's the way he should be...and as always, Starscream is the coward type who left the battlefield scrambling to escape...

However being a Transformer fanatic, it still leaves out a few unanswered questions on my mind...hopefully, these can be answered when i buy the DVD version when it is released with all its extra features like deleted scenes and director's commentary...

Btw, i've checked the online screening dates of Transformers and i'm quite surprised that it will not be shown in Japan until 4th August! I find this hard to believe considering the Transformers franchise was definitely inspired by those 70's Japanese robots...Can somebody from Japan confirm this?

Japan does not understand very well that one of its proudest cultural achievements is in film--- Akira Kurosawa

Dont remember the cartoon but movie was cool but hard to watch the robots' fights with all those gears. It would be better with more armor plating...

And, Starscream run away but they didnt show a scene about it. I meant army knows it, they should say something about it in the end scenes.
