I'm brazilian and I've got some problems with the abbreviations the people here use in english: what means "lol" and "xd"? I know that it looks pretty straightforward, but I DON'T speak english very well.

lol means laugh out loud... i am not sure what xd means...

If it also helps a lot of commonly used english internet slang is

LMAO(sometimes LMFAO) - Laughing my 'butt' off.
ROFL(somtimes ROTFL) - Rolling on the floor laughing.
LAWL - Laughing at who is laughing.
LOL - Laughing out loud
GTFO - Get the F**k out. (hahahaha my favorite)
WTF(Sometimes WTH) What the f**k(hell)

And here are a few internet faces people use to express emotions(text emoticons)

0.0 - Big eyes "wtf was that?!"
X.X - Dead "The dog ate my homework..."
O.o - Confused "huh? What does that mean??"
-.-(sometimes =_=) - Annoyed or not amused "He wouldn't drop the subject."
^_^(everyone's favorite) - Used when you are very happy "Thank you!!!"
XD(the same as ) - big smile
XP(the same as :P) - Sticking out your tongue
