I'm brazilian, but maybe I can help you too. I studied japanese for sometime, I learnt the hiragana, the katakana and a few kanjis, but I gave up. My father was a nisei and my mother keep saying to me to go to Japan to work, but it's hard I heard that the Japanese people don't like gaijins (... and it is worse when you don't speak proper Japanese.). The pronounce of Japanese language is very easy for Portuguese speakers, but the writing... well you may know. I know the limitation of Japanese pronounce and maybe I can help you with the English as a Portuguese speaker I have similar difficulties with it in the pronounce.
